Diabetes Mellitus, Often Overlooked as Not Serious When It...
Diabetes mellitus, commonly referred to as diabetes, is a disease that is commonly overlooked as not being as serious as it actually is. According to the national diabetes fact sheet, in 2007, 71,382 people died from diabetes and doctors ruled that diabetes was a contributing cause of the death of an additional 160,022 people. That is a total of 231,404 deaths in one year related to diabetes (American Diabetes Association, 2013). Diabetes is definitely a disease that many should research to learn just how serious it really is. Diabetes Mellitus has been changing the lives of humans since 2000-3000 B.C. The name Diabetes Mellitus was given by Greeks and Romans, Diabetes meaning frequent urination and Mellitus meaning sugar in the urineâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This test indicates to the doctor whether or not the body is processing glucose correctly. Diabetes is diagnosed with this test if after two hours the blood glucose level is greater than or equal to 200 mg. There is also a Random Plasma Glucose Test, which is a blood test that can be done at any point in the day when experiencing diabetic symptoms (American Diabetes Association, 2013). There are four different types of diabetes, they are all related with regards to low insulin and high blood sugar, but they are also all very different. The different types of diabetes include; Pre diabetes, Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, and Gestational diabetes (American Diabetes Association, 2013).Pre diabetes occurs when the blood glucose levels are elevated, but not quite high enough to have a diabetes diagnosis (American Diabetes Association, 2013). When someone is at the pre diabetes stage it is important for them to change their eating and exercise habits in order to prevent their blood glucose levels for elevating and eventually becoming diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is generally diagnosed early in life, generally in children and young adults. Individuals with type 1 diabetes do not produce insulin at all. Reflection Paper free essay sample
I will focus on these three questions in my reflection. II. Does the Bible have Authority? The bible may be the most criticized and most attacked book that has ever been written. There are many who work to discredit or disprove the authority of the bible. I have personal experiences pertaining to ethics, which if I knew of the power in giving voice to value, it would have gone a long way to change the menace others and I experienced. There was a time in my former School; it came to the notice of the school authorities that some students have been defecating in the senior block. Unfortunately, on one Thursday after School I caught one of the students defecating in one of the classrooms. At that particular moment, I made her clear it off and again ordered her to write report on her behavior, she did what I communicated to her and reported that she is sorry for her action, and it would not happen again. Since then, cases on that came once a while. I can now say from lessons of giving voice to values that I could have done more on the extent of how the case could go, which could have enable the School Authorities to hold the girl accountable for her action which would serve as a detriment to others involved. From the giving voice to values seminar, I know that self-complacency, sympathy, and mercy disabled me to take the case further than it did w end. In addition, I felt that if the case is to go to the Authorities, the student might be dismissed from the School. Likely, some of the enablers that gingered my action to the situation were that as a member of the institution it is my responsibility to ensure that our surrounding in conducive for academics so I have to add to my quota to the objective of the School. Furthermore, during the course of giving voice to values I have come to realize the type of person and the and know more my personality about I am pertaining and now know more about how to communicate and how to send message across effectively. Back to my earlier scenario, if I had gathered the courage to voice what I experienced I would have gone a long way to change situation the School was encountering. With knowledge and insight gained from voicing out values with the basics of ethics, my mode of communication, personality, the sense purpose, and urgency and reasons with rationality in situations of dilemma my voice would be head aloud without any limitation or timidity. In conclusion, what used to be my barriers of speaking against the odd have being further explored giving me an upper hand over them through the course of Giving Voice to Values.

Scarlet Letter And Revenge Revenge is the act of retaliating in order to get even with someone for the wrongs they have done. In the novel "The Scarlet Letter," the author, Nathaniel Hawthorne, uses Roger Chillingworth to reap revenge on Arthur Dimmesdale for his affair with his wife, Hester Prynne. Chillingworth becomes so devoted to revenge that is all his life revolves around. Chillingworth then devotes the rest of his life to taking revenge on Dimmesdale. As the novel progressed, Chillingworth fits the profile of vengeance destroys the avenger. When Roger Chillingworth is first introduced to the reader, we see a kind old man, who just has planted the seeds for revenge. Although he did speak of getting his revenge, when Hester first met her husband in her jail cell, she did not see any evil in him. Because Hester would not tell him, who she had slept with, Chillingworth vowed that he would spend the rest of his life having his revenge and that he would eventually suck the soul out of the man, whom she had the affair with. "There is a sympathy that will make me conscious of him. I shall see him tremble. I shall feel myself shudder, suddenly and unawares" (Hawthorne, 101) As the novel develops, Roger Chillingworth has centered himself on Arthur Dimmesdale, but he cannot prove that he is the"one." Chillingworth has become friends with Dimmesdale, because he has a"strange disease," that needed to be cured; Chillingworth suspects something and begins to drill Dimmesdale. "... The disorder is a strange one...hath all the operation of this disorder been fairly laid open to me and recounted to me" (Hawthorne, 156). As Chillingworth continues to drill Dimmesdale, he strikes a nerve. "You deal not, I take it, in medicine for the soul! ... With a frantic gesture, he rushed out of the room" (Hawthorne, 157). As Chillingworth continued to harp on Dimmesdale, he has become the devil, who has found out that he is the one who had sinned against him. He,(Dimmesdale), is"a rare case...I must search this matter to the bottom" (Hawthorne, 158). When Chillingworth overheard Dimmesdale having a bad dream, he entered his quarters and "laid his hand upon his bosom, and thrust aside the vestment, that, ... had always covered it even from the professional eye" (Hawthorne, 159). What Chillingworth had saw there, no one knows, but we know that he saw Dimmesdale's sin on his chest. "... With a wild look of wonder, joy, and horror ... (with) the extravagant gestures with which he threw up his arms towards the ceiling, and stamped his foot upon the floor" (Hawthorne, 159). When Chillingworth becomes the Devil, he is doing many strange things. Chillingworth is keeping himself secluded, and is seen lurking around town in a creepy manner. Roger secluded himself from everyday life to keep his plot for revenge focused. His plot is working too, Dimmesdale's "... soul shivers ... at the sight of the man" (Hawthorne, 240). Chillingworth is also spending a great deal of time in the "forest trees ... searching for roots and twigs, for his strange medicines" (Hawthorne, 145). The townspeople even see that Roger Chillingworth is pure evil. When the town first meets Chillingworth, they think he is a kind old doctor that would not harm a soul. " At first, his expression had been meditative, scholar like" (Hawthorne, 149). While Chillingworth was acting out his revenge plan, the public view of him changed. "Now there was something ugly and evil in his face, which they had not previously noticed, and which still grew the more obvious to sight, the oftener they looked upon him. According to vulgar idea, the fire in his laboratory had been brought from the lower regions, and was fed with internal fuel; and so, as might be expected, his visage was getting sooty with the smoke. Hester Prynne, Roger Chillingworth's wife, sees that Roger Chillingworth is not the man whom she once knew; he has now become a fiend. " ... There came a red glare out of his eyes; as the man's soul were on fire, and kept smoldering duskily within his breast" (Hawthorne, 187). "And thee, answered Hester Prynne, for the hatred that has transformed a wise and just man to a fiend! Wilt thou yet purge it out of thee, and once more be human" (Hawthorne, 191).
